Our Behaviour System
At Bridgewater Park Primary School, we endeavour to equip all children with the necessary skills and values to support them to become lifelong learners. It is important to us that all members of our community feel loved, supported and challenged within an enriching environment. Our school is a place where children are able to develop a moral awareness and are sensitive to the needs of others and one in which they will show respect and consideration for other people and property. Whilst all members of our community have extremely high expectations of each other, we understand that it is part of the learning journey to make mistakes. Consequently, we enable our children to take every opportunity to reflect on their behaviour, applying consistency and fairness through the use of rewards and sanctions so that they do not repeat those mistakes. We strongly believe that this approach not only allows children to be the best person that they can be, but it contributes to an increase in their confidence, self-esteem, resourcefulness and personal development.
Our Core Power values which sit at the heart of our behaviour for learning policy are:
- We will treat everyone with kindness and respect and always engage fully in learning.
- We will aim to explain and elaborate our ideas and have high aspirations.
- We will have resilience and get the job done.
- We will act with integrity at all times.
- We will promote collaboration through teaching and supporting each other.
- We will actively listen and follow instructions.
These rules are displayed around the school, and are rewarded with team points. Within class and around school children are also encouraged to use Core Power 5 Core learning behaviours. These behaviours are rewarded with team points. At the end of each week team captains add up their points and the team who has made the most progess in their points are awards as team winners of that week. These behaviours are linked to McKie Mastery Power Teaching approach. Please see our 'Curriculum' page to find out more information.
Alongside these reward systems we also do not tolerate poor behaviour as stated in our behaviour policy. Therefore we have introduced an effective clould system whereby all children aim to stay on the sun all day. If this is achieved, children will be considered for an individual certificate each week, linked to the learning behaviour they have shown most. Children displaying the Core Power Values in lessons will also work towards a certificate and prize for the subject they are studying that week, e.g scientist of the week.
If this isn't achieved, due to one or more of the Core Power Values being broken then children will move on the cloud system and could, if poor behaviour continues receive a reflection 1 or 2. If a child has improved behaviour then they will move back onto the sun. For more information please refer to our behaviour policy attached below and or our behviour and consequences document.
